Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor & the Community
Our Intertwined Futures

Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor over 108,000 hectares in size, is the third largest park in Peninsular Malaysia and was a result of a joint project undertaken by TrEES and the Selangor State Government. The Park helps guarantee the quality of life enjoyed by the residents in these areas.

However the Park is facing tremendous pressure from the modern lifestyles of the residents. Pressures include increased demands for water, pollution, disposal of rubbish and fragmentation of forests.

There is an urgent need to reach out to the community in Selangor, KL and Putrajaya and raise awareness on the Park and its critical importance in their lives. This coupled with providing simple solutions to start changing individual daily habits will empower the community in taking action to reduce their ecological footprint on the Park.

TrEES is now focusing on building a bond between the community and the Park. This unique programme is empowering communities to be active participants in the conservation of Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor by building environmental awareness and concern for the Park, a place that communities can visit and actively care for, a forest that is “in their backyards” providing sustenance to their lives.
