TrEES programmes emphasize sustainability. Many of our projects are still running successfully and have over the years been built upon and replicated by the government and other organisations.
Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor
TrEES has been spearheading the drive to protect the hill forests located along the eastern border of Selangor as a state park since 1998.TrEES has been spearheading the drive to protect the hill forests located along the eastern border of Selangor as a state park since 1998.
The gazettement of the area as Taman Warisan Negeri Selangor in 2007, was the direct result of a joint project undertaken by TrEES and the Selangor State Government between 2003 and 2005.
The Park, over 108,000 hectares in size, is the third largest park in Peninsular Malaysia and protects some of Selangor’s most vital resources.
The area is of critical importance as a water catchment area for the Klang Valley and as a hotbed of biological diversity. It is the origin of most major rivers in Selangor feeding the five reservoirs that provide 98% of the water supply to over 7 million residents in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

TrEES School Programme
The programme, run at no cost for participating schools, has been running for 13 years reaching out to over 100,000 students. Under the programme, students are provided with the tools and skills needed to become effective agents of change.
Through the years, projects by the student teams included reducing the usage of styrofoam and disposable materials while initiating composting of food waste in their school canteens. Water conservation projects were implemented using simple yet inventive water saving devices together with projects to reduce energy consumption. Biodiversity gardens were established to promote native species and bring back wildlife.
The programme is an investment in the future producing a generation of creative and confident young leaders who factor in environmental care in their undertakings for the betterment of the nation.
